Volvo Car Korea, the Korean sales unit of Sweden-based automaker Volvo Car Group, said Monday that it sold total 6,604 vehicles last year for its best-ever performance in Korea.

Its 2017 sales jumped 26.9 percent from a year earlier and marked above-20 percent on-year growth for the fourth year in a row, according to the company. Its sales jumped 51.8 percent on year in 2014 and extended the strong growth momentum to 42.4 percent in 2015 and 22.8 percent in 2016.

Its stellar performance was led by premium mid-sized sport utility vehicle XC60, which sold total 1,555 units last year, up a whopping 70.7 percent from a year earlier. Its flagship S90 sedan, X90 SUV, and Cross Country crossover wagon also fared well - S90 sold 1,377 units, XC90 1,066 units, and Cross Country 299 units last year.

The company plans to further bolster its sales in Korea by releasing XC40, its first compact SUV by June this year. In addition, it will up the number of showrooms and customer service centers in the country to 26 outlets each from current 20 and 19 branches, respectively.

This year, the company will focus its efforts on launching XC40 and expanding network in Korea, said a Volvo Car Korea official.
