South Korea’s second largest refiner GS Caltex Corp. has invested 35 billion won ($31 million) to acquire a 10 percent stake in Green Car, a unit of Lotte Rental that was first to introduce car-sharing service in Korea.
Green Car that started service in 2011 has 3 million subscribers and runs a fleet of 6,500 vehicles with the help of its parent, the industry leader in car rentals.
Along with the equity investment, GS Caltex will supply its nationwide gas station network for ride-hailing locations. They will also cooperate in developing new solutions for future mobility.
GS Caltex has become eager in future mobility, making investment in online-to-offline auto repair service provider Cardoc Inc. and connected car solution firm OWiN Corp.
