한국인 박항서 감독이 이끄는 베트남 축구대표팀이 15일 동남아의 월드컵으로 불리는 스즈키컵에서 10년만에 우승컵을 들어올렸다. 베트남 전역이 축제에 빠진 가운데 베트남에서 코리아 열풍이 불고있다.
Korean brands always sold well in Vietnam, but they are on fire due to the staggering winning streak of the Vietnamese national football team, an underdog that has transformed into one of the strongest in Asia under South Korean national coach Park Hang-seo.
15일 베트남 하노이 미딘경기장에서 열린 말레이시아와 스즈키컵 결승전에서 베트남은 1대0으로 승리를 거뒀다. 베트남이 승리를 확정하는 순간 경기장을 가득 메운 관중 뿐만 아니라 베트남 전역이 들썩였다. 경기를 직접 관람하던 응우옌 쑤언 푹 총리는 직접 경기장으로 뛰어내려가 박 감독에게 메달을 걸어주고 포옹을 하는 등 기쁨을 숨기지 않았다.
The nation is in a state of euphoria after its team defeated Malaysia in the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup finals on Saturday, the first victory in a decade, under the so-called Park Hang-seo magic. Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hugged Park after Vietnam defeated Malaysia at the AFF Suzuki Cup final match.
우승을 확정지은 뒤 베트남 대표팀 일부 선수들은 대형 태극기를 어깨에 두르며 우승 세리머니를 펼치기도 했고 거리로 쏟아진 수 많은 시민들은 베트남 국기와 태극기를 함께 흔들며 축제를 즐기기도 했다. 박감독은 베트남 대표팀을 맡은뒤 1년여간 16경기에서 한번도 패하지 않는 '매직'을 이어가고 있다.
After the Vietnamese national’s victory in last night’s game, people filled the street cheering and waving national flags of not only Vietnam but also South Korea, local TV footages and newspaper photos showed. Vietnamese people credit the stunning ascension in the football field to Park Hang-seo magic as his team has been undefeated for 16 straight games.
김도현 주베트남 대사는 "박 감독 덕분에 베트남 현지에서 한국인에 대한 이미지가 좋아졌다"며 "더 많은 베트남인이 한국 방문길에 오르면서 양국간 인적교류가 전례없이 활발해질 것"이라고 말했다.
“Park’s brilliant performance has been promoting the image of South Korea in Vietnam,” said Kim Do-hyun, Korean Ambassador to Vietnam. “Personal exchange between the two countries would increase to an unprecedented level as more Vietnamese people are expected to visit Korea.”
박 감독이 나오는 제품들의 판매를 보면 영향력을 한 눈에 알 수 있다. '박항서'가 들어가면 무조건 대박이다. 박 감독을 홍보 모델로 기용한 베트남 신한은행은 상반기 당기순이익이 전년 동기보다 57.9%나 증가했고 '박항서 음료'로 불리는 '박카스'도 베트남이 아시안게임 4강에 진출했던 지난 여름에만 280만 개가 팔렸다. 또 '박항서 TV'로 불리는 삼성전자 65인치 TV매출은 올해 2배 이상으로 급증했다.
South Korean companies running businesses in Vietnam have been enjoying windfalls. Shinhan Bank Vietnam using Park as its commercial model saw its net profit soar 57.9 percent on year in the first half of this year. Dong-A Pharmaceutical’s energy drink Bacchus sold 2.8 million cans in the country during the summer since it featured Park in its ads. In addition, Samsung Electronics’ 65-inch TV sales have more than doubled this year in the country.
