Samsung Electronics Co. showcased lineups of its super-premium quantum-dot technology based ultra high-definition (UHD) TV named MU by holding Samsung QLED TV Media Day event at Raum Art Center in Seoul on Tuesday.

The company aims to target various customer groups and diversify customers’ options by dividing the premium TV lineups into two levels.

Under its new vision for TV business dubbed ‘Screen Everywhere’, the company said it will lead the new trend of Lifestyle TV, which it describes as TVs that can integrate into everyday lives. “TVs must provide new experiences to viewers and our QLED TVs will redefine the traditional concept of TVs,” said Kim Hyun-suk, Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business President.

The company said future TVs should provide values even when they are off although an average household watches TV just four hours a day. In order to achieve this vision, Samsung will focus on making TVs to provide the best picture quality, seamless design that can blend into any place at home and smart functions satisfying users’ personal needs.

Samsung’s QLED TVs based on quantum-dot technology achieve 100 percent color volume to display images as naturally as possible, the company claimed.

Samsung will release total nine QLED TV models this year that come in 55, 65, 75 and 88-inch panels under three Q7, Q8 and Q9 series. The Q7 and Q9 lines have a flat display while the Q8 lines have a curved screen.

The 65-inch Q8 is priced at 7.04 million won ($6,289), 55-inch Q8 at 4.85 million won, 65-inch Q7 at 6.04 million won and 55-inch Q7 at 4.15 million won. The four models hit the market on Tuesday with the rest scheduled to be released starting next month.
