SiOnyx LLC, a U.S. image sensor specialist, has filed a patent lawsuit against Samsung Electronics Co.
According to industry sources on Monday, SiOnyx has filed six patent infringement lawsuits against Samsung Electronics‘ latest smartphones, including the Galaxy S24, and its image sensor, ISOCELL, with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
Until now, most of the lawsuits filed against Samsung Electronics’ image sensors in the U.S. have been aggressive moves by non-practicing entities (NPEs) seeking simple settlement fees.
However, the latest suit is gaining attention as it was filed by a U.S.-based company that specializes in system chips.
SiOnyx‘s patent infringement claims against Samsung Electronics revolve around technologies that separate nearby pixels in low-light environments and then reassemble them to improve image quality.
