Shinsegae Group Chairman Chung Yong-jin’s photos he took with Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, are belatedly attracting attention in South Korea.

Photos Chairman Chung shared on his Instagram account earlier in January have recently been circulating online. One photo features him standing alongside Donald Trump Jr. In the post, which has since been deleted, Chung had written, “Met with Donald Trump Jr. We sat next to each other at a press event 10 years ago.”

A powerful adviser to the president-elect, Trump Jr. has played a significant role in his father’s presidential campaigns. Chairman Chung has reportedly built a friendship with him over the past few years.

The two men first crossed paths three or four years ago when Chung’s acquaintance arranged a meeting with former President Trump during a visit to New York. But when the former president could not attend the meeting due to a scheduling conflict, Trump Jr. stepped in his father’s place, leading to a strong rapport between the two, according to people familiar with the matter. The pair reportedly connected over shared interests, including their Christian faith, which played a significant role in their bond. During a visit to the U.S. last year, Trump Jr. introduced his fiancée to Chung over dinner.

Trump Jr. has also made efforts to meet Chung during his visits to South Korea, including private meetings outside of official events. At an event themed “Make Korea Great Again,” Trump Jr. took the stage and expressed his gratitude to Chung.
