LG Uplus Corp. has successfully demonstrated a photonic transport network, a key technology for the upcoming 6G mobile communication era, the company said on Tuesday.
This network, developed in collaboration with global telecom equipment firms, minimizes the need to convert between electrical and optical signals, significantly reducing power consumption.
By leveraging this technology, data transmission becomes more energy-efficient, enabling the network to handle surges in traffic effectively.
LG Uplus highlighted “sustainability” as a core element of its 6G vision in a previously released white paper.
This vision stresses the importance of adopting energy-saving structures across all components, from chipsets to terminals, to tackle pressing challenges like climate change.
