Jaguar-Land Rover and 6 other foreign auto names in Korea to recall 4,382 cars

Jaguar-Land Rover Korea, BMW Korea, GM Korea and four other auto companies in South Korea issued a voluntary recall on 4,382 imported vehicles from 20 models for manufacturing defects.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said Monday the recall was announced by seven auto importers including Jaguar-Land Rover Korea, GM Korea, Nissan Korea, BMW Korea, Daimler Trucks Korea, Porsche Korea and MAN Truck & Bus Korea.

Jaguar-Land Rover Korea reported a faulty autonomous emergency braking system in 18,371 vehicles from 10 models including the Discovery Sport 2.0D sport utility vehicle.

GM Korea will recall 16,672 Alpheon sedans due to a wiring connector defect in the electronic vacuum pump that could cause the vehicles to catch fire.

Nissan Korea discovered 4,976 units of its subcompact model Cube had a defect in its power distribution unit that could lead to a short circuit and cause fires. It is also recalling 1,597 units of the Maxima sports sedan over concerns that a brake fluid leak could pose a potential fire hazard.

Some 606 vehicles from two Daimler Trucks models, including the second-generation Sprinter, were found to have a faulty speed limiter. BMW Korea will recall 440 units of its two-wheeler models including the K1660B because of a glitch in the automatic transmission.

Porsche said it will hold back the release of its new 911 Carrera sports cars due to defective emergency lights and resume sales after a software update.

At MAN Truck & Bus Korea, 23 Lion’s City CNG buses were found to have a crack in the gas pressure regulator that could cause a gas leak and make the engine go off.

The vehicle owners would receive notices about the recall from the companies by either mail or phone. Drivers that have fixed the recall-related problems out of their own pocket can apply for compensation.
