SEOUL, Jan. 15 (Aju News) -- South Korean researchers claimed to have developed technology, based on AI deep learning, to self-check power plant turbines. The system is currently adopted by a power plant run by Posco, a steelmaker based in the southeastern city of Pohang
Seoul University's Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering said in a statement on Monday that its research team led by professor Yoon Byung-dong has developed diagnostics technology for power plant turbines of different volumes.
The self-learning AI technology uses big data and enables computers to run self-diagnostics of turbines and check if there are any malfunctions such poor friction, Yoon said, adding that technology can be used in the clean energy industry including wind-power generation.
The researchers said the new technology would reduce maintenance costs at power plants as it cuts down on time and manpower required for conventional maintenance.
