Samsung ambitiously released a high-end gaming PC called "Odyssey" this week but consumer reactions are not so good. Users are shunning the over-priced gadget as they did with the laptop version of Odyssey released in January this year.
In an effort to find its way into the high-end gaming computer industry preoccupied with PC and laptop powerhouses such as Dell, ASUS, and HP, the South Korean giant released Odyssey to punch its way into the red ocean.
Odyssey, packed with new hardware such as a 7th-gen Intel i7 processor and a GEFORCE GTX 1060 graphic card, has everything a gamer would want but the price is too high at 2.930,000 won (2,616 US dollars). Its ill-fated laptop version was priced at 2,010,000 won, far higher than other brands.
"Well, that's 'Samsung Price', nothing new," said EndGone, a user from the popular online IT community Clien. "Nobody can guess what they are thinking." Another user nicknamed Abeomtech pointed out, "With that price, I would get a computer much faster than Odyssey and also get a nice monitor."
Some users compared Odyssey to "ALIENWARE AURORA", a high-performance PC made by US industry leader DELL. "The highest trim of AURORA, with better specs than Odyssey, only costs 2,300,000 won,) said LeetB. When a user wishes to assemble a full PC system with a monitor, with the same or similar specs of Odyssey, it would cost about 1,700,000 won.
