South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics Co. expanded its mobile wallet program Samsung Pay in Sweden and the United Arab Emirates, stretching the service to 14 countries, It also would be starting trial service before full launch in Hong Kong and Switzerland, the company said.
According to the company on Friday, it has partnered with Sweden’s seven credit card firms and banks including Eurocard and Nordea to offer mobile payment services based on Samsung Pay. In U.A.E, the company is working together with nine Middle Eastern financial institutions including Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and Emirates NBD to offer Samsung Pay mobile wallet service.
In Hong Kong and Switzerland, Samsung launched an easy access program that allows users to experience its mobile wallet service prior to official launch. The easy access program in Hong Kong began on Wednesday by teaming up with four credit card firms including American Express. The official launch is scheduled to be made by the end of June. The mobile wallet has been available for early experience in Switzerland since Thursday (local time) through cooperation with MasterCard, Visa, and Bonus Card.
Following its launch in Sweden and U.A.E, Samsung Pay has become available in 14 countries across the world including South Korea, China and the United States.
Samsung Pay is a mobile payment system that supports both near field communication (NFC) and Samsung's own Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technologies. It was first introduced in Korea in 2015.
