지중해 연안 국가 레바논의 수도 베이루트에서 4일(현지시간) 발생한 대규모 폭발로 사상자가 4000명에 육박하는 것으로 알려졌다.
AFP통신에 따르면 현재까지 최소 73명이 사망하고 3700명이 부상한 것으로 집계됐다.
이날 오후 베이루트에 있는 항구에서 폭발이 두 차례 발생했다.
이 폭발로 항구가 크게 훼손됐으며 인근 건물이 붕괴됐다.
하마다 하산 레바논 보건장관은 "지금까지 73명이 숨졌고 3700명이 부상한 것으로 파악됐다"며 "어떻게 보더라도 재앙이었다"고 당시 상황을 설명했다.
실종자 수색에 나선 군인도 "땅에 시체가 널려 있었고 아직 시신을 수습하고 있다"고 말했다.
