SEOUL -- A brave man who risked his life to stop a troubled pickup truck by deliberately causing an accident with an old sports car on an expressway will be rewarded with a new free car.

Han Young-tak, a 46-year-old crane driver, noticed a pickup truck driving down a rainy expressway in western South Korea scraping against the median concrete strip at slow speed. Because it was freewheeling nearly one kilometer, Han felt something was wrong with the driver.

In an effort to prevent a tragic accident, Han accelerated his old car, Tuscani released in the early 2000s, and held his foot down on the brake pedal in front of the truck. When it finally came to a stop after a minor collision, Han found the truck's 54-year-old driver lying unconscious on his seat.

The truck driver was soon carried to a hospital where he regained consciousness. The truck's dashboard camera footage showing Han's heroic deed went viral after it was uploaded to YouTube. Many people offered to provide compensation for his sacrifice, but Han refused, saying anyone may have tried to save the sick man.

Hyundai Motor offered to fix Han's car but Han refused again. However, the country's top carmaker came back with a better offer to provide its new high-performance sedan, Veloster. "We were moved when Han refused our help," a Hyundai official was quoted as saying in a statement. "So we decided to award him with a new car."
