Samsung Electronics unveils AI-infused Galaxy Book5 Pro

South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. unveiled its new artificial intelligence (AI) laptop, the Galaxy Book5 Pro, on Thursday, ahead of the official domestic launch on January 2.

The Galaxy Book5 Pro will be available in two models – the 35.6 centimeter (14-inch) and 40.6 cm (16-inch) – which come in either gray or silver color.

The laptop offers an enhanced AI experience based on Samsung’s own AI, Galaxy AI, and Microsoft Corp. (MS)‘s AI model, Copilot+, the company said.

The Book5 Pro will offer the first AI Select feature in the Galaxy Book series, allowing users to quickly search for images or texts by circling or dragging on the PC’s touchscreen without typing in a search term, making it ideal for browsing the web, shopping, and watching content.

Users can also copy the text in the image they find for documentation, or circle a QR code on the screen to easily launch a URL.

There is also an AI upscaling feature called Photo Remaster, which delicately retouches old photos and converts low-quality images to high quality.

The Book5 Pro with Copilot+ features will be rolled out in future updates.

Samsung Electronics said it has enhanced its AI laptop experience with the Intel Core Ultra Processor Series 2 (codenamed Lunar Lake), which supports a neural processing unit (NPU) with up to 47 trillion operations per second (47 TOPS).

Users can also access various Galaxy AI features by connecting the Book5 Pro with Galaxy mobile products using the MS Phone Link feature, including Circle to Search, Note Assist, and real-time interpretation.

Furthermore, they can use Quick Share to easily share photos, documents, and files by connecting the device with their Galaxy smartphone or tablet; Multi-Control to control their smartphone and tablet with its keyboard and mouse; and Second Screen to extend or duplicate the laptop screen onto their tablet for dual monitors.

On the hardware side, the Book5 Pro uses a high-resolution Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with touch capabilities and a vision booster for intuitive AI utilization.

The device’s camera boasts a new Staggered HDR feature that combines frames with different exposure times into one for vivid images.

The four speakers are powered by Dolby Atmos, while the battery can last up to 25 hours.

Prior to the launch of the Book5 Pro in Korea, Samsung Electronics will hold a Galaxy Academy Festa notification event on Samsung.com from December 16 to 31.

Customers who sign up for the notification will receive a discount coupon that can be used immediately from January 2 to March 31, 2025.
