The South Korean government will allocate frequencies to emerging industries such as low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications, 6G, and urban air mobility (UAM) to enhance competitiveness in these fields.
The Ministry of Science and ICT revealed the strategy on Sunday as part of the 2024-2027 Korea Spectrum Plan. According to the ministry, frequencies traditionally assigned to the three major telecom operators will now be opened for digital innovation services, including satellite communications, UAM, and autonomous ships.
This initiative aims to position Korea as a leader in the UAM industry by providing experimental and test frequencies in advance, the ministry explained.
