Ministry of Science and ICT to establish AI lab at U.S. NYU

The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute for Information & Communication Technology Planning & evaluation (IITP) will establish an artificial intelligence (AI) laboratory at New York University in the United States.

According to the two entities on Tuesday, Global AI Frontier Lab will focus on key research areas, including basic research on AI and AI applications in medical and healthcare.

Top researchers from the U.S. and Korea will collaborate on projects for the next five years. The facility will span around 1,200 square meters at New York University, an institution renowned for its contributions to advanced tech and for producing numerous Nobel Prize and Turing Prize winners.

The lab‘s co-directors will be Yann André LeCun, a Turing Prize laureate and one of the foremost figures in the global AI sector, and Cho Kyung-hyun, a professor of computer science and data science at New York University.
