Tada vans to be back on Korean roads with the backing of taxi drivers (쏘카, 가맹택시 서비스 `타다 라이트` 본격 추진)

쏘카가 자회사 VCNC를 통해 가맹택시사업 면허를 획득하고, 본격 서비스 준비에 나선다.

Tada returns to the market after the van-hailing service became outlawed by leveraging on existing tax drivers.

VCNC는 국토교통부로부터 택시운송가맹사업 면허를 승인받았다고 28일 밝혔다. VCNC는 이르면 올해 안에 서울과 부산을 시작으로 가맹택시 서비스를 출시할 계획이며, 서비스 지역을 점차 확대해나갈 예정이다. 가맹택시는 중형택시를 기반으로 서비스되며, 서비스명은 '타다 라이트'다.

Socar, Korea’s biggest car-sharing service provider, said on Monday its subsidiary VCNC will launch a new app-based taxi-hailing service as early as this year as an authorized taxi business. Initial service areas include Seoul and Busan and mid-sized taxis will operate under the brand name of Tada Light.

타다 앱 이용자들은 기존의 고급택시 기반의 '타다 프리미엄'과 함께 이용할 수 있게 된다.

Tada users will be able to choose either Tada Light or existing Tada Premium services on a single app.

앞서 국토교통부는 지난 4월 가맹형 택시 활성화를 위해 가맹사업 차량보유 면허기준을 완화하였다. 택시 업계 반발 속에 자사의 렌터가 기반 호출 서비스가 불법이 되어, 쏘카는 자사의 타다 서비스를 중단 한 바 있다.

The new service comes as the company’s response to new regulations requiring ride-hailing companies such as VCNC to obtain taxi licenses, which authorities introduced to resolve the dispute between mobility companies and taxi drivers. Socar had to shut down its Tada ride-hailing service as the government outlawed businesses from using rented cars and chauffeurs.

VCNC는 조만간 과학기술정보통신부에 GPS 기반 앱미터기 운행 임시허가 취득을 위한 규제샌드박스 심의를 신청할 예정이다. 앱미터기는 GPS 위치 정보를 기반으로 시간·거리 등을 계산해 택시 요금을 산정하고 부과할 수 있는 스마트폰 단말기 형태의 서비스다.

VCNC also plans to apply for a regulatory sandbox review to get a temporary nod for its GPS-based app metering system, a taxi fare charging terminal that calculates time and distance based on GPS data.
