Renault Samsung chief pledges continued investment in Korea (르노삼성차 사장 "한국시장에 투자 계속할 것")

파업 장기화로 노조와 마찰을 빚는 르노삼성자동차가 국내 시장에서 투자와 경영 활동을 지속해서 하겠다는 뜻을 밝혔다. 17일 부산시는 도미닉 시뇨라 르노삼성차 사장이 전날 부산시청에서 오거돈 부산시장과 비공개로 만나 이같이 약속했다고 밝혔다. 이 자리에서 오 시장은 "르노삼성차가 부산을 떠날 것이라는 일부 보도로 시민이 불안해하고 있다"고 말하자 시뇨라 사장은 "르노삼성차는 한국시장을 기반으로 활동하는 기업으로 앞으로도 변함없이 한국시장에서 투자를 이어갈 것"이라고 밝혔다.

The chief executive of Renault Samsung Motors Corp., the South Korean unit of French automaker Renault S.A., denied speculation about a pullout by the French automaker even as production is expected to be halved this year after the alliance denied replacement mainstay models in the strike-ridden factory in Busan. According to the Busan Metropolitan Government announced Wednesday, Renault Samsung CEO Dominique Signora met with Busan City Mayor Oh Keo-don behind closed doors on Tuesday and assured that Renault would stay committed to the Korean market.

부산공장은 르노삼성차가 한국시장에서 지속가능한 경쟁력을 유지하기 위한 핵심 자원이라는 점도 강조했다. 시뇨라 사장은 한국시장을 대상으로 한 지속적인 투자를 설명하며 내년 상반기 출시 예정인 스포츠유틸리티차량(SUV) 'XM3 인스파이어'를 사례로 들었다. 그는 "지난달 서울모터쇼에서 세계 최초로 선보인 'XM3 인스파이어'는 한국 소비자들을 충족시키기 위해 개발된 모델"이라며 "르노삼성차 주요 모델인 SM6와 QM6 신차 개발을 비롯해 도넛형 탱크 등 LPG 차량 관련 선도 기술 개발도 한국시장을 위한 중요한 기술 투자 사례"라고 말했다.

Signora emphasized that the XM3 Inspire, its new SUV model that will be available in the first half of 2020, has been developed to meet the needs of Korean customers. Efforts have continued to maintain competitiveness in Korea, such as development of new models of its flagship mid-sized sedan SM6 and SUV QM6 for Korean customers, and cutting-edge technologies like donut-shaped LPG tank that enhances LPG vehicles’ trunk space by about 40 percent, he added.

그러나 부산공장은 생산 물량 가운데 65%를 수출에 의존하고 있는 만큼 지금과 같은 2교대 고용 유지를 위해서라도 조속히 노사분규를 타결해 XM3 유럽 판매 차종 등 후속 수출 물량을 반드시 확보해야 한다고 밝혔다. 시뇨라 사장은 단체협약의 외주분사와 전환배치 규정을 노사 간 협의에서 합의로 바꾸자는 노조 요구안은 받아들일 수 없다는 점을 거듭 확인했다.

Signora said the management cannot accept to the union call for its approval in work arrangements, claiming work schedule cannot be subject to collective bargaining as by doing so can risk damage to productivity and competitiveness in the alliance global network. Exports account for about 65 percent of production at the Busan plant.

오 시장과 시뇨라 사장은 부산공장 파업으로 심각한 경영난을 겪고 있는 르노삼성차 협력업체에 대한 적극적인 지원이 필요하다는데 인식을 같이하고 협력업체의 어려움을 해소하는 데도 함께 노력하자고 의견을 모았다.

Oh and Signora agreed that the city and the company have to enhance support to partners and subcontractors of Renault Samsung as their businesses have significantly hurt by the troubles at the finished car assembly site.
