외국인, 하락장에 건설주 쓸어담아

이달들어 유가증권시장에서 외국인이 2조원이 넘는 매물을 쏟아낸 가운데 외국인들이 건설주는 유독 순매수하고 있어 눈길을 끌고있다.

Korean construction stocks have stood out as going against the general foreign selling spree that pushed the headline index to its lowest level in more than a year.

14일 한국거래소에 따르면 지난달 28일부터 11일까지 유가증권시장 외국인 순매수 상위 10개 종목 중 4개 종목이 건설 관련주였다. 이 기간 외국인은 삼성엔지니어링을 922억원 순매수하며 전체 종목 중 가장 많이 사들였고 현대건설(426억원), GS건설(225억원), 대림산업(223억원)도 순매수했다.

Four out of the top 10 Korean stocks cherry-picked by foreign investors from Sept. 28 to Oct. 11 came from the construction category, according to data from Korea Exchange on Sunday. Samsung Engineering Co. topped the list by drawing foreign net purchases of 92.2 billion won ($81.4 million), followed by Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. with 42.6 billion won, GS Engineering & Construction Corp. with 22.5 billion won and Daelim Industrial Co. with 22.3 billion won.

최근 주택 부문의 호실적이 지속되고 해외 부문에서의 이익 안정성도 이전보다 높아지고 있다는 평가에 따른 것이다. 최근 유가 상승으로 중동 국가의 재정 여력이 개선되는 등 해외 수주 기대감도 커지고 있다.

Construction companies are expected to continue riding on the housing boom as the government has pledged to supply more public housing in Seoul in hopes to tame runaway prices partly caused by the lack of affordable housing supply around the capital area. The industry is also buoyant about the global order pipeline, largely from the Middle East, amid rising oil prices.

송유림 한화증권 연구원은 "주택공급에 대한 정부 정책의 입장변화로 그동안 이어졌던 국내 수주 감소세가 둔화될 것으로 보인다"며 "내년 이후 해외 수주가 본격적으로 회복되면 건설업종 전체 수주액 또한 성장세로 전환될 것"이라고 예상했다.

“The Korean government’s shift in housing policy to increase supply will help boost construction at home,” said Song You-lim, an analyst at Hanwha Investment & Securities Co. “Coupled with overseas projects coming out from next year, the construction sector is expected to enjoy solid growth.”

지난해 2분기 이후 올해 1분기까지 매출액 감소가 이어진 삼성엔지니어링은 해외수주 증가에 힘입어 3분기부터 본격 실적 회복세를 이어나갈 전망이다. 삼성엔지니어링의 올 상반기 기준 수주잔액은 13조8000억원으로 최근 5년 새 최고치를 경신했다. 신규 수주액도 6조3000억원으로 지난해 전체 수주액(8조5000억원)의 74% 수준을 뛰어넘었다.

Samsung Engineering, whose sales stayed sluggish from the second quarter of 2017 to the first quarter of this year, is expected to make a turnaround from the third quarter on increased overseas deals. Its order backlog in the first half of the year reached 13.8 trillion won, a five-year high. It also clinched new orders worth 6.3 trillion won over the same period, already achieving 74 percent of last year’s total.

현대건설 역시 일부 3분기 수주 결과가 지연됐지만 수주 증가세는 이어질 것이란 전망이다. 오경석 신한금융투자 연구원은 "올해 현대건설의 연결 해외수주는 지난해보다 60.2% 늘어난 10조6000억원에 달할 것"이라고 전망했다. 에프엔가이드에 따르면 GS건설과 대림산업 역시 올해 영업이익 증가율이 219.9%와 51.1%에 달할 것으로 예상된다.

Hyundai E&C experienced a delay in some of its third-quarter orders but is also forecast to see a steady stream of deals ahead. “Hyundai E&C’s consolidated overseas deals this year are estimated to surge 60.2 percent on year to 10.6 trillion won,” said Oh Kyeong-seok, an analyst at Shinhan Investment Corp. GS E&C and Daelim Industrial are projected to see their operating profit this year jump by 219.9 percent and 51.1 percent, respectively, according to Seoul market data provider FnGuide.
