LG Electronics, which realized the first 6G wireless data transmission in Germany last August, will demonstrate 6G-powered solutions in Korea to advance seamless operations of robotics and autonomous systems in the future.

LG Electronics on Wednesday said that it is demonstrating key R&D achievements on 6G wireless transmission/reception during Korea Science & Technology Fair 2021 at KINTEX in Ilsan to take place on Dec. 22-24.

The exhibition is hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and organized by National Research Foundation of Korea and Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity.

During the event, LG Electronics will unveil its power amplifier device, which was developed jointly with Germany's Fraunhofer, Europe's largest application-oriented research organization. Using this power amplifier, LG Electronics succeeded in the demonstration of the transmission and reception of wireless 6G terahertz (THz) data over a distance of more than 100 meters in an outdoor setting in Berlin, Germany in August.

Ultra-wide bands such as 6G THz have a short frequency reach and severe power loss in the antenna transmission/reception process, which can be addressed by a power amplifier.

LG Electronics, together with Keysight Technologies, a global wireless communication test and measurement equipment manufacturer, will also demonstrate adaptive beamforming technology that converts beam directions according to channel changes and receiver positions.

Keysight which signed an MOU with LG Electronics and KAIST for cooperation in 6G core technology development and testing has provided test equipment to LG-KAIST 6G Research Center.

6G mobile communication is expected to be available in 2029, starting with discussion on industry standardization around 2025.
