Coupang announced Thursday that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Namhae County in South Gyeongsang Province to promote the online sales of seafood and boost the local seafood industry.
Under the MOU, Namhae County will identify seafood suppliers and organizations capable of partnering with Coupang to facilitate online sales. Coupang will focus on expanding distribution channels for the county’s seafood products.
The partnership also aims to promote and increase sales of “Namhaedareum,” a collective seafood brand from Namhae County, emphasizing the unique quality of products from the region’s clean waters. Registered as a trademark in 2022, the Namhaedareum brand currently includes 44 products from 24 local businesses.
Namhae County Mayor Jang Chung-nam highlighted the significance of the partnership, saying that the agreement with Coupang is expected to create new growth opportunities by broadening the reach of Namhae’s premium seafood nationwide.
Coupang’s Rocket Fresh Division Head Lee Sung-han emphasized the company’s commitment to regional development, saying that working with local governments aligns with Coupang’s value of fostering mutual growth with communities. Lee added that the collaboration aims to boost the local economy while providing high-quality seafood to customers at affordable prices.
