South Korea’s SK Group will aim to become a conglomerate that provides comprehensive artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, its Chairman Chey Tae-won said on Monday.
“Collaboration from many people is essential for the future of AI,” Chey said, during a keynote speech at the SK AI Summit held at COEX in Samseong-dong, southern Seoul. “SK is actively collaborating with Nvidia, Microsoft, TSMC, and OpenAI.”
Chey introduced Nvidia Corp. CEO Jensen Huang, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) Chairman C. C. Wei, and Microsoft Corp. CEO Satya Nadella.
“There are a few bottlenecks that need to be resolved for AI to continue growing,” Chey said, emphasizing the need for solutions. “SK is a unique entity globally, capable of everything from semiconductors to energy, data center construction and operation, and service development.”
Chey added that the conglomerate will combine various solutions from SK and its partners to address AI bottlenecks and accelerate global AI innovation.
At the Summit, Huang made his appearance in a video interview, saying that via a partnership with SK hynix Inc., Nvidia has been able to achieve progress beyond Moore’s Law.
He added the company will continue to need more of SK hynix’s advanced HBM in the future.
Microsoft‘s Nadella underscored collaboration among all AI firms as the world is entering a new era of computing.
He noted that Microsoft and SK Group, with their strong semiconductor and telecommunications expertise, have complementary strengths that align well to drive new advancements.
