Samsung Electronics Co. has scored an International Common Criteria certification for its 5G network equipment, gaining the impetus to accelerate its foray into the North American market.
The South Korean tech giant registered its 5G network base station as a security product on the International CC portal with the help of Canadian cybersecurity firm Lightship Security, the company announced on Friday.
This month, it also became the first in the industry to get authorization from the U.S. National Information Assurance Partnership for its 5G network base station. Its product also made the list of the Communications Security Establishment under Canada’s defense department.
Samsung Electronics said the CC certification would help it build trust in North America, where it has been expanding its 5G business.
The company last year signed a $6.6 billion contract with Verizon Communications to develop 5G network infrastructure for the U.S. carrier through 2025. It was also tapped by the U.S. Department of Defense to carry out 5G experimentation and testing at U.S. military test sites.
In Canada, Samsung is expanding commercialization of 4G and 5G networks with local communication players Telus and Videotron.
