Exynos 1080, a 5-nanometer(nm) mobile application processor of South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. will power Chinese smartphone maker Vivo’s X-60, a 5G phone coming out in the first quarter of 2021.
The new Vivo smartphone will use Samsung’s Exynos 1080, which earned a higher performance score than Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865, said Pan Xuebao, executive director of Samsung Electronics' China Semiconductor Research Institute who revealed the news at a Vivo event on Oct. 7.
Vivo’s X-60 reportedly would be the first smartphone running on Samsung’s Exynos 1080.
Although the details on Exynos 1080 are yet to be released, the 5-nm chipset is said to support 5G capability. Industry watchers speculate Exynos 1080 as a follow-up model of Exynos 980, which is used in the Korean tech giant’s 5G smartphones Galaxy A51 and A71.
Samsung Electronics reportedly is going in full swing to win Exynos 1080 supply contracts from Chinese smartphone makers as they need to seek alternative for AP supplies from Huawei Technologies that are under sanctions in the United States.
